widow's mite
The biblical story of the widow's mite appears in the New Testament (Mark 12:41-44), it tells of a poor widow who gave two mites to the treasury of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. Jesus used this offering, all that the poor widow owned, as an example of faith and sacrifice. The mite is the smallest of all Roman coins (about the size of a dime); it circulated in Judea beginning in 103 BC, continuing into the early 1st century AD.

Masada type
Silver pendant set with Jewish revolt coin ca. 66-67 A.D. |
The First Revolt, AD 66-70
Unhappy with the rule of the Roman Procurators, the Judaeans rose up in open revolt in AD 66. The revolt withstood the Romans for several years, but in AD 70 Titus was sent to put and end to it. Jerusalem was sacked and the Temple was destroyed. During this period, the Jewish people struck a number of types of coins.
Obverse: A narrow-necked amphora surrounded by a Hebrew legend that translates to "YEAR 2", indicating that this type was struck in the 2nd years of the revolt (AD 67). Reverse: A Vine-branch with a single leaf, surrounded by a Hebrew legend that translates to "THE FREEDOM OF ZION".
